DEA Publishes Proposed Changes in the Regulations Regarding the Disposal of Controlled Substances
The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) published proposed regulatory changes regarding the disposal of controlled substances as authorized by the Secure and Responsible Drug Disposal Act of 2010 by expanding the options available to collect controlled substances from ultimate users for the purposes of disposal. This proposed rule also reorganizes, consolidates, and changes existing regulations on disposal among all registrants, hospitals, clinics, long term care facilities, and other registrant "practitioners." All DEA registrants should carefully examine the Federal Register publication and, if appropriate, provide comments to DEA by February 19, 2013.
