NIOSH Publishes Two of Three Hazardous Drug Documents

On April 27, 2023, NIOSH published two documents relating to hazardous drugs in the Federal Register1 and on the NIOSH website. The two documents, Procedures for Developing the NIOSH List of Hazardous Drugs in Healthcare Settings,2 and Managing Hazardous Drug Exposures: Information for Healthcare Settings,3 are companion pieces to the actual list of hazardous drugs. The current official version is the NIOSH List of Antineoplastic and Other Hazardous Drugs in Healthcare Settings, 2016. The reference website includes 12 additional drugs that have been added since that time. including two as recently as May 9, 2023, lurbinectedin (Zepzelca®) and mirvetuximab soravtansine (ElahereTM). A draft list was published for comment in 2020.4 The official updated version of the list of hazardous drugs is eagerly awaited but has yet to be released.
